Online ESL courses

Posted by Betsy  Published in Betsy’s Eclection

The classes listed below are grouped by English proficiency level, but within the proficiency levels, the classes are not necessarily listed from easiest to most difficult. They are merely in the order in which I developed them. So, my first efforts, which need the most work, are listed first in each group. The last class listed in each group was the last class I developed and the one that I had the most success with.

Below, you can view the courses as web pages, which usually contain Hot Potatoes exerciese, such as quizzes and crossword puzzles. You can also download the complete courses as .zip archives. The .zip archives contain everything, including the .html pages, pictures (.jpg), Hot Potatoes files (which can easily be altered using the Hot Potatoes suite of applications), and movie files (.mpg) and audio files (.mp3) where applicable.

You are free to use and adapt these classes for your own purposes (as long as they are non-commercial), but please keep in mind the Creative Common License. And they work best in Firefox. Certain features will not work at all in Safari. I used them within WebCT and another learning management system called BRIX, so the formatting may look a bit funny in these standalone web pages. I’d love to hear from you if you are using them–what you’re doing with them, how you’ve altered them, and what works/doesn’t work. Leave me some comments!
