Here are the sentences from the first exercise:

If he had been born with twelve fingers, he would have invented two more digits.
The grammatical pattern of the first two sentences is If + had + verb (past participle), would + verb (infinitive)
The grammatical pattern of the last sentence is If + had + verb (past participle) would + verb (present perfect)
Think about what these sentences mean, and answer the questions on the right. “He” here means “a human”--not Little Twelvetoes. People used to use the word "he" to mean "he or she" and "man" to mean "human". However, that is not normally used anymore because it is sexist.
